The things you need to know about marketing during COVID-19

It’s simple, marketing during lock down means you’re laying down the foundations for success post COVID-19. Retaining your customers is just as important as attracting new ones. It’s likely your regular’s will miss your products and services just as much as you miss them. With this being the case, it can be easy for your customers to be tempted away by competitors, even more so if you’re not active.

Many businesses are going to resume their marketing activity either at the end of the lock down or just before. Out of sight, out of mind of their customers, meaning a slow start to post lock down. Most of the country are at home with a lot of extra time on their hands to browse the internet, especially social media. So why not place yourself directly where they’re spending most of their time.

1. Adjust to continue providing a service

You may be unable to offer your standard service to customers; however, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t offer anything at all. No matter your industry or sector of business, you can provide people with an alternative, whether it’s home delivery or providing content online. You may be stuck, thinking what services you could still offer. Here are a few examples:

Home delivery.
They can’t come to you, so why not offer safe, social distanced home delivery.

Written posts
This is a great opportunity to lend a helping hand and teach people, so they can temporarily recreate your service at home. Whether it’s step by step regular tutorial’s or posting advice and tips about a task or product, you're still contributing a service to your audience. E.g. A coffee shop offering Latte tutorials or a plumber posting regular advice on maintenance and which products work best for your home plumbing. Get creative!

Online video posts
Online video posts and live streams have mainly been utilised by those in the sports and fitness industry, showing the public how to stay fit and active or practise their skills at home. People in other industry’s and sectors can utilise this tool too, why not offer video tutorials and ‘how to’ videos? E.g. Weekly cooking lessons to help people recreate some of your restaurant’s dishes at home or beauty tutorials teaching people how to style their hair in different ways.

2. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) Rank higher in search results pages

With the nation spending a large amount of time surfing the net, the door is open for you to reach new prospects. Especially with SEO, SEO is the process of making changes to your page and content to help it rank higher in the search results page. Allowing you to be seen before your competitors. With some businesses cutting back or stopping their SEO process, it’s the perfect time step up your SEO and rank higher than your competitors. This has been the case for most of our clients.

Think how many potential customers have come across your business online, clicked off your page and gone to another businesses page simply because they didn’t like what they saw. Now is the time to change that. It’s time to make sure your website and social media makes a big first impression, in order to do its job and turn prospects into customers.

In this difficult time, these tips will not only benefit you but will also contribute to your customers at home.
Once it’s safe to do so, things will slowly return to normality. When they do, do you want to be starting again? Or would you rather be ahead of your competitors, continuing your progress. It’s certainly the time to step up your marketing.
